The Author's Purpose:Self-Directed Mentoring

This book is an amalgamation of my dissertation and other systemic researchers’ views on facing hurdles when trying to move up the ladder in the workforce. These hurdles are often based on workplace bias and stereotypes. As a result, I found many educators facing these challenges on the highway to becoming principals and other school administrators.     

I, too, fell victim to stereotypes. Fear of biases made me afraid to apply for specific positions because I believed women could not be successful. First, I thought I would not qualify or even be capable of handling the job's demands. Second, trying to land an interview would be just as tricky. In my qualitative research, I was not alone thinking this way. Many women and men also experienced similar challenges. The results of my dissertation were the foundation for creating a manual to help people prepare for leadership positions through self-directed mentoring.

The book informs you of multiple methods for mentoring. This approach is called diverse mentoring. You may select one way or several. However, Self-Directed Mentoring is the ultimate process for individuals who align their competency with the role of a teacher, coach, consultant, administrator, and leader alike. It also maximizes time. You teach yourself relevant techniques, skills, and strategies required for a well-rounded employee. The framework comprises six elements:
